As you plan your holidays, family visits, outings and shopping trips over the Christmas break, don’t forget about double demerit points.
Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; the simple answer is not to speed or break the road rules at any time of the year. However a single incident at this time of year (such as having your seat belt undone and texting) can wipe out your licence.
At the moment there will be double demerit points from 24 December 2015 to 3 January 2016. Be warned though it is not unheard of for the government to make last minutes changes.
You will lose double demerits for speeding (10km/h over the speed limit will be 6 demerit points), illegal use of mobile phones, not wearing a seat belt, or riding without a helmet (all 6 demerit points).
If this happens to you over Christmas, call first thing in the New Year and make an appointment to come and see Bruce Coode to see if there is anything that can be done.
