The laws in relation to swimming pools and the obligations imposed upon property owners have been changed so that any person who owns a property on which there is situated a swimming pool has to register the pool with the New South Wales Government (or alternatively with the Local Council) before the 29th of October, 2013.   The Registration process is done as a self assessment process by the property owner.

If a property owner has not registered their pool on the NSW Swimming Pool Register by the deadline they can be fined between $220.00 and $2,200.00.

As from the 29th of April, 2014 any person wishing to sell or lease a property on which is situated a swimming pool, must include in the Contract for Sale or the Lease document a formal Compliance Certificate obtained from either an authorized private certifier or from a Council Officer. There will be a fee charged for inspecting the pool and providing the Certificate but the amount involved is not yet known.
